A number of Glasgow Rangers fans were purring over the club’s former manager Graeme Souness after he reflected on his time at Ibrox in an interview with Sky Sports.
The 67-year-old began as a player-manager with the ‘Gers in 1986 before going on to take a full managerial role. He won three league titles and four League Cups during his time in charge, including the first two of the club’s nine-in-a-row sequence of league crowns from 1989 to 1997.
Souness lured several England internationals north of the border when he was at Ibrox, with Gary Stevens, Mark Hateley, Trevor Steven, Ray Wilkins and Terry Butcher all making the move to Glasgow. He guided the ‘Gers to the quarter-finals of the European Cup and enjoyed a 5-1 derby win over Celtic in 1988. [via Sky Sports]

He left to replace Kenny Dalglish as Liverpool manager in February 1991 after coming under “intense” media scrutiny in Scotland, although he reflected on his time at Ibrox by saying: “Those early years at Rangers were super times for me, my favourite memories in management.”
He added: “I’d done my job and I feel I’d left the foundations for a very strong team indeed. I will always look back on that period with immense fondness.” [via Sky Sports]
