Glasgow Rangers will know only too well the difficulty of trying to compete in Scottish football.
The Scottish Premiership has nowhere near the same amount of funds as, say, the English Premier League – at £12m, the Gers’ capture of Tore Andre Flo is the highest ever transfer fee north of the border, with no less than 413 players being signed for bigger fees in England. As such, the 54-time Scottish champions, along with everyone else in the country, must find the best bargains they possibly can.
In Joe Aribo, though, the Ibrox outfit may have done just that. Last summer, they managed to sign the 23-year-old on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic, with whom he scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists in 97 matches. With a salary of £20,000 a week (The Daily Mail via The Sun), he would earn handsomely, but he has arguably repaid that faith with his performances this term.

The Nigeria international has been a regular for Steven Gerrard across the board. He has made 48 appearances already in all competitions, and those matches have been rather lucrative – he has picked up nine goals and eight assists in the process.
The increase in his reputation can be proven by the rise in his Transfermarkt value. When he made the switch to the Gers, he was said to be worth just £180,000 – that number has now grown to £900,000, which equates to a 400% improvement in 10 months.

The arrival of Aribo was one of Mark Allen’s last transfers as sporting director. Following the arrivals, and failures, of the likes of Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera, the former Addicks man allowed Allen to redeem himself before being replaced by Ross Wilson.
