Get it done: 2 reasons why Parish & Hodgson need to convince classy Crystal Palace star to stay

Share

Palace fans here in the Tavern are still yet to believe the miracles Roy Hodgson has produced at Selhurst Park, as they now look to be well clear of any relegation trouble.

The Eagles’ season has been redefined under the guidance of former England national team manager Roy Hodgson, as relegation scares soon turned into a possible top-half finish for this Crystal Palace side.

However, the manager can’t be gifted with all the credit as some of Crystal Palace’s star men have stolen the show this year, as Wilfried Zaha, Bakary Sako and Yohan Cabaye continue to lead the charge.

Therefore, with star player Yohan Cabaye’s contract set to expire in the summer months, they’re aiming to offer the Frenchman a new and improved short-term deal that would be likely to see him at the club for another year.

For a player that’s pulled the strings in the midfield for the Eagles over the past couple of seasons, his passing ability and calmness on the ball has been something that’s helped Palace dominate sides over the years.

So without further ado, here’s a look at TWO reasons as to why Steve Parish and Roy Hodgson must convince Cabaye to sign a new deal…

Leadership & experience

The Frenchman has always been a mainstay in the Crystal Palace line-up as one of their most influential players, as a real leader in the midfield for the Eagles after taking the captain’s armband on a couple of occasions.

Indeed, his experience in the Premier League is something hard to come by with over six years under his belt, and this can be seen in the classy performances displayed by the 32-year-old.

In the most difficult of times for this Crystal Palace side, the midfielder has clawed them away from the clutches of despair as he looks to lead the side through the highs and lows of the club.

Quality of the highest order

There’s no denying that Yohan Cabaye is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, with performances of the highest-order being produced every-time he steps onto the field at Selhurst Park.

In a Crystal Palace side that’s lacked quality in the centre of midfield this season, the former Newcastle United man has been the one player that always delivers for Roy Hodgson’s side.

Losing the quality of the 32-year-old could spell for some troubling times in South London, in a midfield that would struggle for answers without Cabaye pulling the strings and barking the orders.
