Get out: 2 reasons why Woodward should force Jose Mourinho out of Man United ASAP

Share

Jose Mourinho is not the most popular man with the Man United supporters in the Transfer Tavern right now.

Since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, an atmosphere of discontent and disappointment has lingered around Old Trafford. The legacy left behind by Ferguson has given the United supporters an astronomical set of expectations for what their players should be achieving, but as of yet, none of the managers who have taken the hot seat at Old Trafford have succeeded in winning the hearts of the supporters.

David Moyes was the first to take on the impossible job of managing Manchester United, and everybody knows how that particular appointment turned out.

Moyes’ job was made all the more difficult by the fact that he was Ferguson’s successor, but neither Louis Van Gaal or Jose Mourinho had the luxury of using that excuse.

After winning both the Europa League and the League Cup last season, Mourinho has arguably been United’s most successful manager since Ferguson’s retirement, but his achievements last season have hardly made him a fan-favourite.

Ferguson’s ability to enable his players to gel together and play exciting, fluid, attacking football was not only key to his success, but also his key to the supporters hearts.

And this is one of Mourinho’s main issues, his style differs from what the United supporters would consider to be the classic United approach to football.

Mourinho is undoubtedly a results driven manager, but considering he is failing to achieve the results required to mount a title challenge this season, his time at the club could be set to end in the near future.

With that being said, here are two reasons why Ed Woodward should force Mourinho to leave the club…

He plays negative football

For all of Mourinho’s plaudits and success over the years, he has never been recognised as a man who attempts to excite the crowd with free-flowing football.

His tactics are predominantly based on being hard to beat first and foremost, and the aesthetic aspect of the game is therefore deemed redundant.

But this is not what the United fans have become accustomed to in their recent history, and there is no doubt they are concerned that the identity of the club could be negatively impacted by Mourinho’s tactics.

His relationship with the fans is broken

It is not only the style of football that Mourinho plays which has caused the relationship between himself and the supporters to break down in recent weeks.

Mourinho’s conduct off the field has left plenty to be desired, and at times, he has baffled plenty of The Red Devils faithful.

His most recent outburst directed at former United star Paul Scholes revealed a distasteful side to the Portuguese manager that lacked a basic understanding of the club’s history.

Indeed, it is admirable that Mourinho was attempting to do everything in his power to defend his player, but his comments towards a former legend of his own club were truly staggering.

The vast majority of United supporters were deeply unimpressed by his conduct, and if he carries on in the same vein it will not be long before they lose faith in their manager.
