Glasgow Rangers: Fans rage at James Tavernier following comments

Glasgow Rangers captain James Tavernier is a Gers stalwart.

The 28-year-old made the switch to Ibrox in 2015 with the club still in the Championship, and he helped them reach the Premiership in his first campaign at the club. In his five years there, he has managed 242 appearances scoring a huge 46 goals and providing a massive 74 assists along the way as well – great numbers for a defender.

You would have thought that the £4.32m-valued man – as per Transfermarkt – would be a hero amongst the supporters, but that does not appear to be the case. He is regularly lambasted by some fans for his performances, and his defending has come under criticism as well.

The right-back has been talking about the new signings the Gers have made this summer, with him praising the club for getting their business done early doors. However, this has just given the fans another opportunity to lay into him. We need to buy a ‘ready made’ captain because that is the difference between us and them. Their captain is the manager on the pitch and that is why Celtic won the league instead of Rangers. James Tavernier is good going forward, excellent free kicks and penalties but no captain.
