Journalist Alan Nixon, who originally broke the news that Leeds United had made a bid for Glasgow Rangers’ Ryan Kent, has said that the 23 y/o does not have a release clause in his contract.
The Whites have already made a bid worth £10m for the former Liverpool man, but that was turned down by the Gers. There have now been reports that they will return with an improved offer of £14m, but there have been suggestions that they could match the winger’s release clause.

However, when asked on Twitter whether £14m would activate the clause in Kent’s contract, Nixon responded that such a stipulation does not even exist.
Obviously, the Gers are already aware of this – after all, they agreed the contract in the first place – but the lack of a release clause does put the Ibrox outfit in a far stronger position. Unless Kent puts pressure on the club and demands a move away, there is no reason for them to accept any offer from the newly-promoted Premier League side, whilst the Yorkshire club can also not talk to the £3.15m-valued man – as per Transfermarkt – themselves.

It remains to be seen where Kent ends up, but after three goals in his first five Premiership games of the campaign, he is likely to have a huge say in whether the Gers can win a first major trophy since 2011. It is vital that the 54-time Scottish champions stay strong.
