The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern are all delighted as a report from TEAMtalk claims that the club has decided against the signing of Jerry Mbakogu from Serie B side, Carpi. The Nigerian striker has been described as “the next Didier Drogba” but Marcelo Bielsa would rather sign a Championship proven player.

This summer looks like being a big one for Leeds United. The club has already completed the biggest signing they could have hoped for sorted with Marcelo Bielsa now tied down to a two-year contract. Now though, the Argentine gaffer will be turning his attention to the transfer market and has ear-marked both Abel Hernandez and Matej Vydra as targets for the club to look at to bolster their attack.
Because of this, the club will now be pulling out of the running for Carpi striker, Mbakogu. Thoma Christensen agreed a deal with Carpi that meant the Whites could sign the Nigerian striker for £4.5 million this summer, although with Bielsa now in charge it looks like the club won’t be taking up the chance to sign the 25-year-old who only managed six goals in 26 Serie B appearances in the 2017/18 season.

The news that Mbakogu won’t be at Elland Road next season is brilliant for the fans, as the money will be put towards a striker who the fans have heard of and who has Championship experience.
