Guardiola simply must drop these 2 Man City players against West Brom – agreed?

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern were hoping for a dominant win against Wolves in the Carabao Cup. The Citizens have been on a roll this season, and having dispatched big teams like Chelsea and Liverpool already, the Championship outfit were not expected to pose much of a problem. That wasn’t the case, though, and in the end it took a penalty shoot-out for the Citizens to seal the victory.

Though the Premier League is largely considered to be within its own context, and so Man City’s disappointing display against Wolves may not, in theory, factor too much into Pep Guardiola’s thinking with regards to his team selection this weekend , the Citizens were pretty poor against the Championship outfit – and so the Spaniard surely took a few things away from the game.

If they had won by a big scoreline, a few players may well have found themselves in with a shout of starting this weekend, but now the very opposite has happened. Indeed, our landlord is expecting a few changes from the team that faced Wolves, with a few players likely to drop to the bench this weekend.

With that said, Guardiola simply must drop these 2 Man City players against West Brom – agreed?

Alexander Zinchenko

Though naturally an attacking player, Zinchenko started as a wing-back against Wolves, and it was hardly a showcase of his skills.

Guardiola would have been hoping for him to impress, given Man City’s lack of depth at left-back, but it was clear that the Ukranian was a square peg in a round hole.

In truth, a very good performance certainly would have left him in with a chance of featuring this weekend, but alas, it was not to be.

He should drop down to the bench in favour of one of Man City’s other options in this position.

Yaya Toure

Yaya Toure has been a great servant for Man City, but it’s clear that his career is winding down.

Pep Guardiola has hardly selected him, and there’s no reason why he should be in the Spaniard’s plans this weekend.

He still offers something, but his style doesn’t really align well with Guardiola’s philosophy, and given the quality available in midfield, the Ivorian should settle for a seat on the bench.
