‘Had my hopes on him’ - Arsenal fans on Twitter not happy with manager’s new deal

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing their next gaffer following the news (via Sky Sports) that Joachim Low has extended his contract with the German national team under 2022. Whilst the bookies never had Low as a favourite for the Arsenal job, the fans had been throwing his name into the hat amongst the likes of Luis Enrique and Massimiliano Allegri as their preferred choice.

With the 2014 World Cup winning coach having his future tied down for the next four years, the Arsenal fans are coming to the conclusion that it will probably be Mikel Arteta taking up the managerial hot seat at The Emirates next season. The Spaniard hung up his boots in summer 2016 as Arsenal captain, taking up a role on Pep Guardiola’s coaching team, winning his first honours as a coach this season in the Premier League and League Cup after a trophyless first season.

If Ivan Gazidis had been able to recruit the German national team boss, it would no doubt have been a major coup for the North London club. Low won the 2014 World Cup and recorded possibly the most shocking result ever in the World Cup finals when they smashed host-nation Brazil 7-1 in Belo Horizonte to reach the final against Argentina. Whilst the Germans failed to repeat their tournament heroics in Euro 2016, Low’s stock wasn’t hit and the Arsenal fans can still be gutted that he won’t be their next man.
