Rangers: Filip Helander fit for the Old Firm

The Scottish Sun is reporting that Filip Helander should be fit for Glasgow Rangers’ next match against their arch-rivals.

Helander set to be available for Old Firm

Helander was recently called up to the Sweden squad, but he was forced to return to Scotland with an injury. There were fears he could miss out on the Ibrox outfit’s clash against Celtic as a result.

This latest update, however, has handed Steven Gerrard a boost. The Sun is reporting that despite him leaving the Sweden squad, it is nothing too serious, and should not keep him out of any Rangers matches.

Hugely important for Gerrard

This will no doubt be music to Gerrard’s ears. The £1.44m-valued man (as per Transfermarkt) has been a rock at the back alongside Connor Goldson, with the 54-time Scottish champions conceding just four goals in the nine matches in which Helander has played this term. Leon Balogun is another option, but it is better to have a dilemma than to be forced into a decision.

The importance of the Celtic match cannot be underestimated. It is huge for Rangers’ season – they need a result to prove they can go all the way, even ignoring the obvious significance it will have on the table. By having as many players as possible available, Gerrard has a far better chance of leading his team to victory.
