Glasgow Rangers defender Filip Helander has pulled out of the Sweden squad due to injury.
The 27-year-old was called up for the Blagults’ upcoming matches versus Russia, Croatia and Portugal this week.

However, he has pulled out of the squad, with Sweden boss Janne Anderson confirming he has a ‘light injury‘.
This is undeniably a blow to Steven Gerrard. Helander has been fantastic this season at the heart of the 54-time Scottish champions’ defence – they have conceded just four goals in the nine matches in which he has played. With Nikola Katic out injured, a long-term spell on the sidelines would leave Rangers with just three central defensive options.

In the short-term, it could be even worse. The Light Blues’ next game after the international break is against none other than fierce city rivals Celtic. It is a match that could decide whether they really can challenge for the title this term and Gerrard will surely want all of his options available. Whilst Leon Balogun is a more than worthy back-up, Gerrard will not want to be forced into a major team selection call ahead of the clash.
With Anderson saying this is just a light injury, Gerrard and co will be hoping the issue is nothing too serious.
