The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been turning their noses up at rumours that have been linking them with a move for Paris St-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. According to France Football (via Sport Witness), Newcastle are interested in the shot-stopper for a fee in the of 15-20 million euros, despite already signing Martin Dubravka this window.

The goalkeeper has supposedly had multiple meetings with Newcastle boss, Rafa Benitez, although the fans are finding it hard to work out why their coy Spanish gaffer is looking at signing another man between the sticks when they’ve only recently signed fan-favourite Dubravka. The Slovakian ‘keeper spent the second half of the season on-loan in the Northeast and was signed early in the window for a fee of just £4 million.
Now, though, the club have been linked with another ‘keeper for a large fee in relation to their transfer budget and it’s hard to see why. The fans are all in agreement that they need a full-back who can deputise on both sides, a winger – preferably Chelsea’s Kenedy – and a clinical goalscorer. With that sort of wishlist it seems ludicrous that the Magpies would splash a huge chunk of their budget on another goalkeeper

The Newcastle fans in the Tavern have made it fairly clear that they don’t want or need Areola, and they’d rather have the club’s resources pumped into recruiting players in other positions.
