Pep Guardiola looks to have firmly stamped his ethos on the club this season and the North West outfit are certainly reaping the rewards. The City players seem to have mastered the possession-based philosophy Guardiola swears by and demands every one of his players adapts to. Even Ederson, City’s summer acquisition and fine young goalkeeper, looks like he could adopt a deep-lying playmaker role on the basis of his composure and quality on the ball.
With the January transfer window now only one month away from opening, it is likely that Guardiola will be working with Txiki Begiristain to identify potential targets to bring to Manchester in the mid-season window.
And, according to the Manchester Evening News, City are set to rekindle their interest in Alexis Sanchez in the January window when he enters the final six months of his contract at Arsenal.
But with City in such fantastic form and boasting a squad of such immense strength in depth, they would be wise to end their pursuit of Sanchez. As the saying goes, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.
Although Sanchez is an incredibly talented player, his move to City could actually prove detrimental to their aspirations for the season.
Guardiola’s squad is littered with world-class talents and some of the biggest household names in European football, which begs the question, do they need even more?
Managing a squad full of talented players and bursting egos is a difficult task for any manager, and Guardiola appears to be doing that excellently at the moment.
However, this could all change if Sanchez moves to the Etihad in January and takes the place of one of City’s top-performers.
There is absolutely no reason for City to take such a risk midway through the season, as there is plenty of quality in the current squad to lead the Citizens to their first ever Champions League victory this season.
