The Newcastle United fans have been in buoyant mood in the Transfer Tavern since they defeated Manchester United on Sunday.
Rafa Benitez’s side took a huge step towards survival this season with a valiant victory over 2nd place Manchester United at St James’ Park on Sunday. Newcastle had to hang on and ride their luck after Matt Ritchie had given them a second half lead, but in the end they thoroughly deserved to claim all three points and move up into 13th place in the Premier League.
The lower-half of the table is incredibly condensed with just 11 fixtures left to play, but Newcastle’s most recent giant-killing victory should install a new found sense of hope into the club.
The Magpies turned their attention towards their fellow relegation rival West Bromwich Albion yesterday evening as The Baggies travelled to West London to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
West Brom started the weekend rock-bottom of the Premier League with barely a glimmer of hope of retaining their top-flight status this season, and their 3 nil defeat against Chelsea last night has further compounded the sense of doom at the club.
Naturally, the Newcastle supporters are are always pleased when their relegation rivals suffer defeat, but the fact that their former manager Alan Pardew is currently in charge of West Brom has made their demise in recent weeks all the sweeter for the Toon Army.
Based on current form, it is fair to say that Pardew will be leading the club into The Championship this season, and the Newcastle fans have already identified their clash with West Brom on the 28th April as a day when they could potentially send them into the second tier of English football with a victory at St James’.
