Introducing: The defender Aston Villa should sign if Mings doesn’t return, Liam Lindsay

Dean Smith has managed to completely turn things around at Villa Park after struggling for consistency earlier on in the season. Although, another man who’s played a big part in transforming the Villans’ season has been Jack Grealish, as he’s netted two goals and one assist since returning.

There’s still a long way to go in the current campaign but one that will be playing on supporters’ minds already is the summer transfer window, as a number of Villa’s loan players will return to their parent clubs.

One player who’s set to return to the Premier League at the end of the season is Tyrone Mings. Although, the Mirror reported in January that Aston Villa have a deal with Bournemouth which allows them to match any offers from rivals in the summer transfer window, but it’s safe to say that they’ll struggle to sign him without promotion.

Of course, supporters would love nothing more than to see Mings join on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window, but it looks unlikely at this stage as the Villans still face lots of competition in the race for a play-off spot.

So, Smith should turn his attention towards signing a different defender in the summer.

Barnsley’s Liam Lindsay, who is valued at £450k (by Transfermarkt), has been linked (as per The Sun on Sunday, 24/02, page 64) (via HITC) with a move to Villa Park in the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old has been a key performer for the Tykes in the current campaign as he continues to aid their automatic promotion push in League One. He could well be the perfect replacement for Mings in the summer as he’s deceivingly quick, strong, dominant in the air and he rarely misses a tackle. And, he still has his best years ahead of him with plenty of potential still waiting to be unlocked, so he could be develop into a special player.

Aston Villa  fans, obviously Mings would be a dream signing but do you think Lindsay could do the job? Join the discussion by commenting down below!
