Just when our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern thought their club was beginning to look stable, things have once again threatened to blow up.
The Magpies were relegated last season, of course, but many were hopeful for this year that they’d come straight back up as Rafa Benitez decided to stay on.
Things have been going pretty well, too, with the club well in contention for the Championship title but January appears to have put a considerable spanner in the works.
Indeed, The Daily Mail believes Rafa Benitez could decide to walk out on the club after they couldn’t manage to bring in players when he had thought that some would be on their way.
It’s a story that has the potential to derail their campaign, too, with him likely to stay until the end of the season at least and our landlord reckons it might just be best if he goes now instead – here are three reasons why…
He’s too strong minded
The real problem here it appears is that Rafa wants to have full control of everything to do with the club and is perhaps not getting that.
A manager like him will not stand for that as he’s shown in previous jobs and our landlord reckons if he stays matters will only get worse. There could be a real rift if things do not get sorted quickly and our landlord reckons it could be best to go separate ways now.
He’ll get another good job
Let’s be honest if Rafa Benitez leaves the club there is going to be plenty of clubs ringing him up pretty sharpish to see if they can get him in.
He’s a top manager and that’s why Newcastle wanted him to stay so much but our landlord reckons a club currently playing at a higher level would surely love to have him in their dugout just as much. It must be something crossing his mind.
Doesn’t need to harm his reputation
If, and it’s a big if, Newcastle somehow conspire to not come up this season with all the money they’ve spent and good players they have it won’t do Benitez’s reputation any good.
It could happen, though, particularly if this does not settle down quickly and then suddenly Rafa’s going to be getting hammered. It could be best then that he gets out now before any eventual blow up drags him down.
