Jack Ross hopes to tie Josh Maja down to new contract before turn of year

Sunderland have been very impressive so far this season as they continue to chase down promotion straight back to the Championship.

The Black Cats invested heavily during the summer transfer window, but it has been one of their youth products that has produced the goods so far this season. And, it now looks as if Jack Ross is trying to secure an agreement with the youngster, as according to the Shields Gazette, Ross is hopeful that a new deal will be agreed with Josh Maja by the turn of the year.

Jack Ross has hinted that Josh Maja could sign a new contract at the Stadium of Light before January.

As Maja has entered the final year of his contract, he would be free to speak to other teams in January should no new deal be agreed by that point.

But, Ross is hopeful that a deal will be agreed by the turn of the year and believes that having a new contract agreed for Maja by then will be in the best interests of both the club and the player.

Here’s what he had to say:

“It would help everybody if we could get a resolution before January,”

“Naturally his start to the season has just heightened the attention around him, so we want to make sure he stays here at Sunderland and that he plays a part in the clubs’ ambitions,” added the Scot.

THE VERDICT:

Josh Maja has been simply sensational for the Black Cats so far this season as the main driving force behind their push for promotion.

Indeed, the Englishman has the potential to become one of the best forwards in English football if he continues to climb up the levels, but his immediate future must lie with Sunderland.

So, it’s vital that Jack Ross can tie him down to a new deal at the club with a very bright future ahead of him.
