Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are delighted to hear via the Daily Mail that they may have found a club who is willing to take Fernando Torres off their hands but on one condition – that it’s a free transfer.

Atletico Madrid have shown an interest in their former captain but they are not willing to spend a penny on a transfer fee as it has been uncovered that the Diego Simeone’s side are in £400 million worth of debt.

Some Chelsea fans may feel it would be awful to let him go for free after spending so much on him previously but punters think it is about time they just got him out of the club and moved on.

Last week, Blues boss Jose Mourinho laughed off suggestions that Torres could return from his current two-year loan stint with AC Milan suggesting there is no room for him at the moment.

So maybe this move will happen as he is not welcome back at Chelsea and maybe a move back to Spain will see him recapture his previous scintillating form displayed at both the Vicente Calderon and Liverpool.
