Villa fans on Twitter delighted as Lewis Brunt pens first senior contract

Aston Villa are a club on the up at the moment. Since Steve Bruce was sacked in November the results have improved and whilst not everyone is quite on-board with Dean Smith, he’s certainly made a difference in his short time at Villa Park. The ex-Brentford man has a clear plan and bringing youth through is part of that, with Lewis Brunt signing his first professional Villa contract.

Brunt is an 18-year-old central-midfielder and whilst he may have to wait a long time before he’s thrown in at the deep end in the Aston Villa first-team, there’s no doubting that training alongside the senior side and being directly under the influence of Dean Smith will do him very well as he looks to progress as a player and get to the very top. The competition at Villa Park is already tough, but with youngsters coming through too now, it’s getting tougher.

At the moment, it’s hard to see a way for anyone to break into the Villains’ central midfield. Having the likes of Conor Hourihane, John McGinn and Jack Grealish performing and working hard in the middle of the park makes life extremely difficult for the opposition whenever they turn up to face Smith’s Villa, and whilst Brunt won’t be getting chances just yet given the strength of his colleagues, he’ll be working alongside them and developing.

The Villains are delighted to see youth being given a chance and they’ll be hoping he can get at least a few chances this season in the Championship.
