Leeds United are among a number of clubs who are thought to be interested in signing Bristol City youngster Alex Scott, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
The Lowdown: Scott shining for Bristol City
At just 19, Scott is already making a name for himself in the Championship, making an impressive 25 starts in the division this term and missing only one match in the campaign up to this point.
The Englishman has five assists to his name from midfield, highlighting his creativity, and has been described as an ‘exceptional‘ player by his manager Nigel Pearson.
Scott’s current deal at Ashton Gate runs until the summer of 2025, but the Robins will do very well to keep him at the club until that point.
The Latest: Leeds in the race for Scott
Taking to Twitter, Jacobs confirmed Leeds’ interest in signing the teenager, although they are far from alone in tracking him.
The CBS Sports journalist tweeted:
“Several Premier League clubs are looking at 19-year-old Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott. Told there is a realistic possibility of a sale in January but price an issue. Bristol City want £12m. Bournemouth, Wolves, Leicester, Leeds, Brighton & Spurs all tracking Scott.”
The Verdict: One for the future
It is always vital to have a nucleus of homegrown young quality at any club, and Scott could be a fantastic prospective signing for Leeds if they can get a deal over the line this month or in the summer.
He is already a vital player for Bristol City in a tough division, and his match averages of 2.4 tackles and one key pass per game this season suggest that he is effective both in and out of possession, with those figures hypothetically placing him among the top six for both metrics at Elland Road.
Scott has the potential to grow into a formidable player over time, and he could be a long-term successor to the USA-bound Mateusz Klich in Leeds’ midfield.
