Leeds: Patrick Bamford could return for Brighton clash

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford could be available for his side’s Premier League clash with Brighton this weekend, reports Phil Hay.

The Lowdown: Bamford out again

The 28-year-old has experienced a torrid time of things in the injury department in the last year or so, missing a huge chunk of action with various issues.

Bamford’s 2022/23 season has been disrupted by an adductor problem that has limited him to 112 minutes of league action, meaning he missed last Sunday’s memorable 3-0 win over Chelsea at Elland Road.

Leeds travel to Brighton on Saturday afternoon and it could be that the striker features, in what is a pleasing update.

The Latest: Bamford return possible

Writing on Twitter after Jesse Marsch’s pre-match press conference, Hay confirmed that Bamford could make his comeback at the Amex Stadium:

“Bamford is ‘doing well and moving forward’ – still a call to make on him for Brighton away, but Marsch says the performance of the team is allowing him to be patient with PB.”

The Verdict: Huge boost for Leeds

Bamford has suffered such cruel luck with injuries but this is a huge boost for both him and Leeds, with a long run back in the team hopefully ahead of him.

As Hay alludes to, however, there is no great rush to throw the Englishman straight back into the team, given last weekend’s result and the current form of Rodrigo, who leads the Premier League scoring charts.

If fit, a substitutes’ role for Bamford at Brighton makes the most sense, allowing him to ease his way back in and potentially make an impact from the bench in the second half.
