Our Leeds fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still dreaming of automatic promotion though they’d be more than happy with play-off qualification too.
Indeed, after seasons of disappointment and underwhelming performances, the Whites finally look like they are on the brink of returning to the top-flight under Garry Monk – a man who has done a superb job this season.
Certainly, many Leeds fans here in the Transfer Tavern and further afield are keen to see him sign a new deal with his contract up in the summer and so Phil Hay’s latest update via his Twitter account and The Yorkshire Evening Post is surely of interest:
#lufc column – looking at Garry Monk's contract and the plan to extend it:https://t.co/W0J2zzsHkn pic.twitter.com/Ax9u0lMbfr

Hay wrote in his column:
“Leeds plan to improve it and the club’s new co-owner, Andrea Radrizzani, was not playing to the crowd when he promised that he and Cellino would sit down with Monk and attempt to keep him. Leeds are understood to have included the option of a year’s extension in his existing deal but they could not conceivably activate it without Monk’s consent.”
All being well, then, Monk will sign a new deal for the Elland Road outfit but it’s interesting to see that he will be the one who has the final say on whether he puts pen to paper.
There’s no indication suggesting he would walk away at the moment, of course, but until he does sign there will be elements of doubt.
