Many Leeds United fans have been discussing the news Liverpool are considering a move for Kalvin Phillips this summer, according to Bleacher Report.
Dean Jones mentioned Jurgen Klopp’s interest in the 24-year-old during a recent Q&A.
The football insider revealed the Reds “want a midfielder, but it would be more of a squad player like Cantwell from Norwich or Kalvin Phillips of Leeds. I think that gives you an idea of how Liverpool wants to strengthen and add depth rather than another elite signing.”
After being handed his debut by former manager Neil Redfearn all the way back in 2015, Phillips has lit up the crowds at Elland Road, as Marcelo Bielsa has turned him from an attacking player to a defensive midfield asset over the course of the season so far.
He has received an impressive statistical rating of 7.2 via WhoScored in the Championship up until now, making a staggering 2.8 tackles per game, averaging 1.3 interceptions, and completing at least 1.3 clearances on average in the English second tier for Bielsa’s side.
Unsurprisingly, loads of supporters took to Twitter to share their views, after Reds fan site Anfield Edition posted the transfer update on social media. One fan dubbed the youngster the “Yorkshire Pirlo” in homage to the Italian legend, while another stamped a £100m price-tag on the Englishman, adding “anything less is an insult.”
