Leeds United: Jay-Roy Grot won’t play for Whites again

Football Insider have claimed that Jay-Roy Grot has played his last game for Leeds United after being frozen out by Marcelo Bielsa.

During his early career, Grot did enough to earn the attention of Leeds scouts and gain a move from Dutch side NEC Nijmegen to the Yorkshire club in the summer of 2017 under the management of Thomas Christiansen.

Appearing regularly during his first season in English football, the young attacker has since struggled, admitting back in July 2018 that adapting to the style of play in the country was not working.

The 22-year-old Dutchman is now a frozen out figure at Elland Road and spent last term on loan with Vitesse, netting two goals and gaining one assist in 22 appearances.

So what have Football Insider said about Grot’s future?

Football Insider go on to report that Grot is now unlikely to feature against for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, citing that the forward was denied a summer exit after surgery on his knee.

Currently in rehab as his recovery to full fitness continues, it is expected that the Whites man will at least stay at the club until January and further more, potentially until next summer when his contract expires.

With Leeds starting the Premier League season in good form and current striker Patrick Bamford performing well, any chance of Grot breaking into the Leeds fold is seemingly gone at this stage.

Did Grot have potential to become a Leeds regular?

The 22-year-old certainly has experience despite his young age, having played in Dutch football at the highest level and for the various aged Netherland youth sides.

But, it was unlikely that he would get past the likes of Bamford for a starting spot in Marcelo Bielsa’s attack, especially now with the addition of Rodrigo.

Now in the Premier League, results are more important than ever if the Yorkshire club want to remain in England’s top flight after a 16-year absence and that will also act as a barrier for Grot’s chance of minutes on the pitch.
