Mateusz Klich is thought to be closing in on a new contract at Leeds United, according to Phil Hay (via Football League World).
It is claimed by the reliable journalist that a new deal for the midfielder is ‘on the horizon’ as he answered questions fans had in an online Q&A session for The Athletic.
Klich has already entered the 12 months of his current contract at Elland Road.
Leeds appear to be in the business of handing some of their key squad members new deals at the moment and Klich is certainly a player who should be offered the chance of putting pen-to-paper on a new contract at Elland Road.
Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas have all recently committed their future to the club recently and, perhaps, the Poland international is in just a deserving position as his team-mates.
Having appeared to be deemed surplus to requirements under Thomas Christensen, the 29-year-old has become an important figure for Marcelo Bielsa over the past year or so.
Klich has gone on to make 57 appearances for the Argentine following his arrival and has contributed with 11 goals and ten assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).
Indeed, he appears to have started this season in fine form as well, as per WhoScored, he has managed to average 2.8 key passes in his six Championship outings, registering one assist.
Klich is certainly an important member of Bielsa’s squad and it would be extremely smart for Leeds to try and extend his contract beyond the end of the season.
The 29-year-old has proven to be a crucial and influential member of the squad with his play in the middle and seems to work well in tandem with Phillips – as he can provide the Whites with another dimension with his attacking play, whilst his midfield partner can deal with the defensive aspect of the game.
