Leeds United wide forward Ian Poveda is set to return to action next month, re-joining Blackburn Rovers for the rest of the season, The Lancashire Telegraph report.

The Lowdown: Months out

Poveda, labelled as ‘exciting’ by Noel Whelan, has been out of action for months now, similar to Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper.

Capable of playing as a right or left winger, Poveda required ankle surgery back in November after suffering a serious problem against Sheffield United.

The attacker had made eight appearances for Blackburn in a season-long loan, and that spell at Ewood Park looks set to continue going off a fresh update.

The Latest: Blackburn return

The Lancashire Telegraph’s Rich Sharpe shared a story on Poveda on Tuesday.

Within his report, he suggested that the winger will re-join Rovers next month for the rest of the campaign, with Tony Mowbray hopeful the 22-year-old can contribute to the club’s push for promotion.

The Verdict: Good news

Leeds have had plenty of injury woes this season, with several loanees also picking up serious issues.

Poveda and Mateusz Bogusz have both had surgery in 2021/22, but it’s good news knowing that the former of the two has a chance of returning to action before the campaign comes to a close.

Who knows, a strong end to the season with Blackburn could catch the eye of Leeds officials, and with two years remaining on his Elland Road deal, his Whites career may not be over.
