Leeds United's Crysencio Summerville ran Southampton's Under-21s ragged on Friday night, Joe Donnohue of Leeds Live says

The lowdown

Leeds' Under-21 side thrashed Southampton 6-2 at Elland Road, securing three points that took them up to top spot in Premier League 2 Division 2.

There were a number of senior stars in action for Michael Skubala's side, including Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Junior Firpo and Patrick Bamford, who bagged a hat-trick.

Summerville was also on the scoresheet, along with Cooper and summer signing Sonny Perkins.

The latest

As he summarised the match on Twitter, Donnohue singled out 20-year-old Summerville for some unique praise.

He wrote: "Bamford (3), Perkins, Summerville and Cooper with the goals for the home side. Leeds in control from start to finish, despite late consolation strikes. Summerville had the Saints defence in a tumble dryer all night."

The verdict

With Leeds' senior side out of action this weekend following the postponement of their clash with Manchester United, around 10,000 supporters were in attendance to watch the youth side at Elland Road, and Summerville put on a show.

In addition to his goal, Summerville also notched three assists, teeing up Bamford twice and laying on Perkins' goal too.

Summerville received a very healthy run-out for the first team against Brentford last time out, playing the final 31 minutes.

That ended a run of four consecutive matches as an unused substitute, and perhaps suggests he's made more of an impression on Jesse Marsch.

This performance will certainly do his chances of earning a first start after the international break no harm whatsoever.
