Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner reportedly wants to “complete a transfer to Leeds in January”.
The Lowdown: Wagner links
Wagner, labelled as a ‘fighter’ by team-mate Aurelien Collin, was heavily linked with a move to Leeds this summer.
As we now know, a transfer failed to materialise, but it looks as if all parties involved haven’t given up on a future switch.
The Latest: Transfer update
LUFCFANZONE provided an update on Wagner following the deadline after talking to a source close to the player, revealing that talks are still ongoing.
They claimed that the 25-year-old turned down moves to Dinamo Zagreb, Stade Reims and Olympiacos in a bid to join the Whites in the New Year.
Happy with Leeds' summer business?
Yes, just about!
The Verdict: Needed
Leeds have a shortage of left-backs at the club, which has resulted in centre-back Pascal Struijk turning out in that position so far this season.
Defensive midfielder Alfie McCalmont even started at left-back for the U21s recently, so it would make sense to bring in Wagner to provide competition to Junior Firpo when he’s fully fit.
The club added strength in depth to the first-team squad over the summer, however, there is still a worry at left-back, so Wagner could be the answer in January.
