Leeds United: Philadelphia Union boss confirms Kai Wagner talks

Leeds United: Philadelphia Union boss confirms Kai Wagner talks -Leeds United News

Leeds United have been in contact over Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner, confirms their manager Jim Curtin.

The Lowdown: Wagner linked with Leeds move

The Whites may have started their 2022/23 Premier League season with a win at home to Wolves last weekend but more transfer reinforcements are needed before deadline day.

Left-back is certainly a position that needs to be strengthened after the injury to Junior Firpo and Leeds have been linked with a move for Wagner recently, following some impressive performances across the pond.

The German is his side’s joint-most valuable asset, according to Transfermarkt, and has registered an impressive five assists in 24 MLS appearances this season.

The Latest: Contact confirmed

Curtin has confirmed [via Union fan page Brotherly Game], that he has discussed Wagner’s potential move to Leeds with Marsch, admitting that he may want to move to a tougher league.

“Curtin says he’s talked with Jesse Marsch about Kai Wagner’s status. Says that the team would like Wagner to stay, but that Kai would also like to play at the highest level.

“The club is still waiting for official offers to come in. ‘Still to be determined kind of situation.'”

The Verdict: Snap him up, Whites

Wagner could be an ideal left-back to bring in this summer, possessing experience at 25 but also hopefully having his best years ahead of him.

Firpo endured a tough first season at Leeds even when fit, while auxiliary left-back Stuart Dallas is out with a long-term injury, so Wagner could come in and be an immediate starter.

Using Pascal Struijk there is a far-from-ideal scenario, as was the case against Wolves.

His attacking ability is highlighted by his aforementioned assist tally  – he has 17 in total in the MLS – and while the Premier League is a clear step up in the quality, Marsch’s talent ID has been spot on so far and should be trusted when it comes to players plying their trade in his homeland.
