Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla will reportedly be released when his Elland Road deal expires.
The Lowdown: Elche loan
The Whites brought in Kristoffer Klaesson over the summer as back up to Illan Meslier, a transfer which resulted in Casilla moving back to his native country.
The 35-year-old joined Elche on a season-long loan and started the club’s first 14 La Liga fixtures.
The Latest: Leeds departure
They claimed that the goalkeeper will return to Yorkshire in the summer, and then ‘will be released after the end of his contract with Leeds’.
How many signings do Leeds need to make this summer?
The Verdict: Contract terminated?
Therefore, it could make sense for owner Andrea Radrizzani and director of football Victor Orta to terminate his deal over the coming months. He was replaced by Meslier as first choice at the beginning of 2020 and made just three Premier League appearances last season.
They’ve already made their mind up on releasing the shot-stopper, and with Leeds well-stocked in that department and possibly dropping down to the Championship next season, they could do with parting ways earlier than expected on Casilla’s contract worth over £32,000-a-week.
