Leeds United have held 'good communication' with Philadelphia Union over left-back Kai Wagner, according to journalist Manuel Veth.

The lowdown

Veth shared news of Leeds' ongoing interest in Wagner in a tweet on Wednesday.

He added that Primeira Liga outfit Benfica and Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb are also in for the defender.

This is expected to be 'a decisive summer for the 25-year-old German', indicating that a move is potentially on the cards.

The latest

Veth now says, 'per source', 'there has been good communication between Leeds United and the Kai Wagner camp', which backs up comments from the Philadelphia Union manager, Jim Curtin.

'There has been no official bid' as yet, but it sounds like that may be in the pipeline.

The 'understanding is' that all parties are feeling patient and relaxed and that they all 'want the best solution'.

Meanwhile, LUFCFANZONE have relayed an update from 'a source close to the player'.

As it stands, Zagreb have made the highest bid, but Leeds 'is the best option' for Wagner 'because of the [opportunity to play in the] Premier League'.

The source reiterates that 'his desire would be the Premier League', as opposed to another division on the continent.

The verdict

You can see why Leeds are seemingly in the market for a left-back.

Junior Firpo is expected to be out for another month, if the initial estimates from Leeds' medical team prove to be correct.

Even when he does return, the Whites are arguably short of cover in that position after allowing Leif Davis' departure.

Marsch played Pascal Struijk in that role against Wolves last weekend but in reality, he's a centre-back with very little experience on the flank.

Wagner's tally of five assists in 25 appearances suggests he can be an attacking threat if he moves to Elland Road.

The 2022 All-Star has been dubbed a 'fighter' by team-mate Aurelien Collin, and that mentality might also appeal to Marsch and his staff.
