Leeds United sporting director Victor Orta is wanted by Chelsea as they look for someone in that role, according to a new update that has emerged.

The Lowdown: Orta an influential figure

The 43-year-old has proven to be a popular figure at Elland Road since becoming sporting director back in 2017, during what has been a great period in the club's modern history.

Orta has overseen promotion back to the Premier League, a glorious spell under Marcelo Bielsa and now what is hopefully a new dawn with Jesse Marsch at the helm.

His work in the transfer market has been key and he has been described as 'massive' by David Norris for his efforts and all-round impact at Leeds.

The Latest: Chelsea eyeing up move

According to The Mirror, Orta is on a shortlist at Chelsea currently, as they look to bring in a top-quality sporting director to work alongside new manager Graham Potter, following Petr Cech's exit.

The Blues will 'step up interviews' next week and the Leeds man could be spoken to about a potential move, as could the likes of Lee Congerton at Atalanta and Sevilla's Monchi.

The Verdict: Concerning for Whites

Orta has been such a driving force during his time at Elland Road, showing such passion for the Whites and bringing in superb cut-price signings such as Illan Meslier and Joe Gelhardt, so this is undoubtedly a worrying update.

The lure of joining Chelsea during a new chapter at the club could be too great for him to turn down but the hope is that he still feels he has unfinished business at Leeds.

The Marsch era is still very much in its early days - he only joined earlier this year - so Orta could still look at this as a long-term project, which many Leeds fans will certainly hope is the case.
