Leeds United are no longer trying to sign Stade Brest left-back Romain Perraud, according to reliable reporter David Anderson of The Mirror.

The Lowdown: Whites were expected to seal a deal

The Whites were linked with a summer move for Perraud way back in January. The left-back, who can also play as a left midfielder, starred in Ligue 1 last season.

He netted three times and registered seven assists and was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season by publication France Football.

Football Insider claimed on Tuesday morning that Leeds are expecting to seal a deal for the French full-back after holding ‘encouraging talks’.

However, Anderson claims there has been a pretty huge twist in the ordeal.

The Latest: Anderson’s post

Anderson took to Twitter on Tuesday lunchtime, just hours after the reported positive development with Perraud.

He had some bad news for those Whites supporters wanting the club to sign Udinese midfielder Rodrigo de Paul and Perraud, saying:

“Just a word on Rodrigo De Paul. Leeds did make an enquiry last summer, but were not prepared to pay Udinese’s asking price and moved on. He is not a target this summer. I am also hearing that Leeds are no longer trying to sign Brest’s left-back Romain Perraud.”

The Verdict: Fans should trust Orta

In our opinion, Leeds supporters should place their trust in director of football Victor Orta when it comes to transfer dealings.

Orta and Marcelo Bielsa got all incoming deals during the 2020/21 campaign spot on, with the likes of Raphinha, Diego Llorente, Rodrigo and Robin Koch all impressing.

A permanent deal for Illan Meslier has proven a steal and managing to negotiate another loan deal for Jack Harrison worked out extremely well.

So, should the Whites no longer hold an interest in Perraud, you’d expect that means they have another left-back catching their eye.

Stuttgart's Borna Sosa is another left-back who has recently been linked with an Elland Road switch, so could he be the man to bolster Bielsa’s full-back ranks? Only time will tell, but Orta has proven that fans can have trust in his decisions.
