Leeds have an abundance of talent in their squad, and with additions like Rodrigo arriving in the summer, young players like Ian Poveda have been struggling for game time.
However, it seems like this hasn’t upset Poveda and the latest reports suggest that he is more than happy – working overtime behind the scenes to secure his future at Elland Road.
The latest update on Poveda
The Colombian edition of Marca is reporting that the young star understands that he is low down in the pecking order at Leeds, but he does not mind this and he wants to fight for his place and prove to Marcelo Bielsa that he is a valuable asset.
He is trying to prove this by making sure he is involved in the setup for both the U23 side and the senior team.
Poveda is going about things the right way
If you want to impress Bielsa, then you need to show you have a good work ethic and you are willing to give your all to help the team. This seems to be exactly what Poveda is doing and hopefully he will be rewarded.
Harry Redknapp was full of praise for the winger vs Man City this season. He said: “He gave (Benjamin) Mendy so many problems, he couldn’t deal with him and he had to make a tactical change and bring Mendy off in the end. A high-level game, really enjoyable, played at such a good pace.”
This season, the 20 year-old has made five appearances for Leeds in the Premier League (all from the bench). However he has featured twice in Premier League 2 for the U23 side and picked up a goal (Transfermarkt).
Therefore there is not much else he can do apart from making a more positive contribution off the bench for the senior side. He is still young and has bags of potential, and it sounds like Bielsa could be the ideal manager to make him realise his talent.
In other news, Bielsa was loving one Leeds man in his press conference. Have a read who it was here!
