Pawel Cibicki is set to return to Leeds United imminently following his loan spell with IF Elfsborg after failing to reach an agreement.
The Swedish outfit confirmed the news in an official statement on the club’s website, stating that the 25-year-old would be returning to the Championship outfit on Thursday.
Club director Stefan Andreasson is quoted as saying: “We have not been able to find a solution for a continuation, which means that Pawel returns to England tomorrow. We thank Pawel for this time and wish him all the best.”
Cibicki certainly looked to find his feet in front of goal once again during his time back in his homeland, as he managed to score five goals and provide one assist in his 14 appearances in the six months he was with the club (club’s official website).
The 25-year-old has had a torrid time with Leeds since his alleged £1.45million move from FF Malmo two-years ago. He did not find the net in his ten appearances for the Elland Road outfit (Transfermarkt).
As for the present, Marcelo Bielsa using him in the upcoming campaign looks unlikely as he saw him surplus to requirements when he arrived at the club last summer (Yorkshire Evening Post), opting for the likes of Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe instead.
Both men are established forwards within the Championship and have proven that they can find the back of the net on a consistent basis. Bamford hit ten goals in an injury-hit debut campaign for the Whites whilst Roofe recorded 15 goals in his 34 appearances across all competitions (Transfermarkt).
The news regarding Cibicki’s imminent return may potentially come as rather frustrating news for Leeds this summer.
It sounds as though there were problems in getting any possible deal done, and although it is not clear as to why there were complications, Leeds must have surely wanted him off their books.
The Whites have hardly seen the best of the 25-year-old during his time in Yorkshire and with concerns regarding Financial Fair Play regulations (Pontus Jansson appeared to suggest there are some following his sale), offloading another fringe player would surely have been a welcome move at Elland Road.
