Leeds United: Phil Hay discusses Illan Meslier following Tottenham loss

Leeds United were easily beaten by Tottenham Hotspur on the weekend, and goalkeeper Illan Meslier could have done better for a couple of the goals. Phil Hay has discussed the young player following the match.

What Phil Hay had to say about Meslier

The journalist for The Athletic tweeted out: “Leeds United’s risk vs reward mindset is reflected by their faith in Illan Meslier – a goalkeeper with huge potential but who is incredibly young by Premier League standards.”

Should Leeds stick with Meslier

It has been a fairly decent to the season start for the young Frenchman. He has featured 17 times and has kept six clean sheets (Transfermarkt), whilst helping Leeds currently sit 12th in the division (SofaScore).

He made four saves in the match against Tottenham, (SofaScore) however, he will likely still be disappointed with his performance.

It isn’t the first time this campaign where he has not had the best of games, as many Leeds fans were not happy with the way he played in the 4-1 loss to Crystal Palace.

However, Hay makes a great point where he highlights his potential. A goalkeeper under the age of 21 is being trusted by a great manager in Marcelo Bielsa, which emphasises the quality that he has and the club should definitely stick by him.

In other Leeds news, the club have attempted to hijack a deal for a young defender – have a read who it is here!
