Leeds United’s Kiko Casilla has been handed a contract offer from Sevilla, according to a report by Football Insider.

It is claimed the Europa League giants have put a deal on the table for the experienced shot-stopper, although it is thought to be worth less than the £40,000-a-week he is reported to be currently receiving at Elland Road.

Casilla’s future at Leeds is something that has been up for debate this summer after really failing to establish himself as the solid and reliable individual they wanted between the sticks.

The Championship outfit were believed to be open to his departure earlier in the summer, but are now said to have performed a U-turn and placed their backing behind the Spaniard, who is also understood to be keen on remaining with the Yorkshire-based club.

The 32-year-old was brought to Elland Road after Marcelo Bielsa hinted at concerns with Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s performances earlier in the campaign, whilst the loss of Jamal Blackman meant reinforcements were needed.

However, for all the experience and knowledge that the 32-year-old has (Transfermarkt), it simply did not help the Whites over the last five months or so of the campaign.

He kept just six clean sheets in his first 19 games, and despite immediately establishing himself as the number one, his performances left a lot to be desired at times as he had made a number of calamitous errors.

The former Real Madrid ‘keeper was sent off against Sheffield United in a crucial clash back in March and then went on to make a huge blunder on the cusp of half-time against Derby County in their play-off semi-final which led to criticism from fans and David Prutton – who stated Casilla had lost his marbles.

With the wages thought to be lower than what is currently on offer and coupled with the ideas that Leeds are believed to be keen on keeping him at Elland Road whilst he is more than happy to stay, seem to suggest that Sevilla could still have their work cut out for them.

With just Peacock-Farrell (who has also been rumoured with a move away from the club this summer) Bielsa’s only other recognised goalkeeper in the squad, it would be difficult to see the Whites allow him to leave in the current transfer window without a replacement coming in.
