Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Julian Draxler is the kind of player Leeds United will be looking at during this January transfer window, after reports suggested he could be a shock target.
Romano provides Draxler update
The Whites have been linked with a move for Germany international Draxler since last summer. So far this season, he has been a bit-part player, appearing for just 461 minutes for Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions.
Speaking to Give Me Sport, transfer expert Romano was asked whether there was anything in the links between Leeds and the 2014 World Cup winner. He responded:
“It’s not decided by Pochettino yet, but Pochettino asks for some days to decide about these kind of players that were not playing, like Draxler. So in the first meeting he had with Leonardo he said ‘give me some days to decide about these players and then we will decide if (we are) selling them’.
“For sure, Leeds are looking for this kind of player, at Draxler, at Rodrigo de Paul, but they won’t spend like €35 to €40 million for this kind of player. So it will be an opportunity if Paris Saint-Germain will decide for example, to sell Draxler on loan, they will consider this kind of opportunity. If not, I think it will be difficult.”
While Draxler may be struggling to muscle his way into the PSG side at the moment, there is no doubt he is a player with fantastic quality. He has been with the Ligue 1 champions since January 2017, scoring 22 times and providing 33 assists in 150 matches in all competitions. He also has 56 caps for his country, and at 27 he still has plenty of football left in front of him.
Would you like to sign Julian Draxler?
The playmaker currently has less than a year left on his contract and is currently valued at just £18m by Transfermarkt. It is hard to see, therefore, how PSG would be able to charge double that for his signature. As a result, he may be available at a bargain price for the Elland Road outfit.
