Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are in a three-way battle to sign Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips, according to an update which emerged on Thursday lunchtime.

The Lowdown: Phillips a priceless figure

It could be argued that no Whites player has had a greater influence in the Marcelo Bielsa era than Phillips, with the 26-year-old performing superbly in the middle of the park.

He has gone from struggling Championship player to England's reigning Player of the Year all under the Argentine, with his absence from a long-term hamstring injury hurting Leeds badly of late.

There is concern regarding Phillips' future, however, with a new deal not yet signed and reports continually linking him with a move away.

The Latest: PL trio eye up move

A new update has now emerged, with Fichajes claiming on Thursday afternoon that Liverpool, United and Arsenal all want to snap up the Englishman at the end of the season.

He is seen as someone who can bolster the midfields of all three, especially United and Arsenal, both of whom lack top-class options in that area.

The Verdict: Sign that deal

While Phillips' current contract doesn't expire until the summer of 2024, it is absolutely vital that a new deal is agreed in the near future, both in terms of him showing his loyalty and Leeds being in a stronger bargaining position moving forward.

Recent reports have suggested that he is happy at Elland Road and will extend his stay in the coming weeks - should that happen, it would be better news than any new signing this summer.

Phillips was described as both 'amazing' and 'fantastic' by Jose Mourinho during Euro 2020, which speaks volumes, and the idea of him no longer being at Leeds next season is a heartbreaking one.
