Leeds United have had ‘no contact’ with Bayern Munich regarding the potential transfer of Raphinha in the January transfer window, according to journalist Phil Hay.
The Lowdown: Raphinha linked with Leeds exit
The Whites are going through a tough period at the moment, with poor results on the pitch compounded by a string of injuries to key players.
Fortunately, there doesn’t appear to be a huge amount of truth in the rumour, if a new update is to be believed.
The Latest: Hay gives positive Raphinha update
Taking to Twitter to respond to a question about Raphinha, Hay confirmed that Bayern have not spoken to Leeds over a move, providing a definitive seven-word verdict.
He stated: “Leeds have had no contact from Bayern.”
The Verdict: Leaving in the summer?
To lose Raphinha midway through the season, with the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford experiencing injury problems, would feel like a hammer blow in Leeds’ campaign.
They simply must keep hold of the Brazilian until the summer at least, with former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy describing him as ‘wonderful’ in the past and WhoScored‘s metrics showing him as by far the Whites’ best performer this term.
It may be the case that the 25-year-old seeks a transfer once this season comes to a close, at which point it would be hard to begrudge him a move, especially if he has ensured that Leeds pull away from the relegation fight.
In other news, one potential Leeds signing won’t come cheap. Find out who it is here.
