Leeds United have been linked with a move for Leicester City winger Demarai Gray, leading to Darren Bent to claim he would be a better option than Manchester United’s Daniel James.
With just a few days remaining in the summer transfer window, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa seemingly remains keen to add some new faces to his squad and potentially increase his summer spending of just under £80m.
Linked with Man United winger James in the past, seeing a move fail in January 2019, Bielsa’s liking of the Welshman has continued to be reported in several media outlets of late.
Whilst little is seemingly happening over a potential move, a new link to Gray has emerged with Mike McGrath from The Telegraph claiming that the Yorkshire club are set to step up their pursuit of the England under-21 international.
Bent, who often speaks to Football Insider about various footballing matters, has touched on the potential of Gray arriving, given that he also has just eight months remaining on his contract with Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester side.
Bent said: “I like Demarai Gray and when you look at Demarai Gray, I think he’s got a lot more to offer than Dan James.
“He can go past people, he can score a goal, he’s quick, he’s tricky but then again he’s maybe not produced the goods for a couple of years now so you’d have to go well maybe he needs a fresh challenge because of the emergence of Harvey Barnes.
“For me he needs more game time. I’d probably go more with Demarai Gray because he’s got a little bit more to his game. If I had the choice of either or, I’d probably go for Demarai Gray over Dan James.”
24-year-old winger Gray has appeared no less than 168 first team appearances for the Foxes, netting 13 goals and providing 17 assists in the process.
Valued at just over £13m by Transfermarkt, Leeds could potentially agree a cut-price move given that the winger’s deal comes to an end next summer.
Both Gray and James are in a similar position at the moment, given that they both are looking for regular first-team football.
Gray certainly has talent, having played mainly as a bit part winger for the Foxes and still contributing with 30 goals.
Leeds have been linked with so many players over the last few days si Monday’s deadline day could certainly prove to be an interesting one.
