Leeds United have been named as possible suitors for John Lundstram once his current deal at Sheffield United expires in the summer.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has claimed that the 26-year-old may well suit the Elland Road faithful, and he would also be available on a free transfer once his contract runs out at the Blades:
“Is he going to go to a top-ten team? I’m not sure, it’s a difficult one.
“Sitting here, I don’t really think there’s any team that I could go: ‘He’s definitely going to go there.’ Leeds United, somewhere like that, where he can get up pitch and attack, they like to flood forward, would he suit someone like that?
“I’m pretty positive that there’ll be a few teams keeping a close eye on his situation anyway, that’s for sure.”
Lundstram may suit Leeds
It may be a wise idea for Marcelo Bielsa’s team to pick up Lundstram given that he would not cost a single penny in transfer fees.
The central midfield player would definitely suit their style of play, with pundit Kevin Campbell recently telling Football Insider that he is a ‘combative’ player with ‘good energy’ who ‘puts his foot in and can run all day’.
Should Leeds sign Lundstram?
He also has the added experience of playing in the Premier League before and at just 26 years of age, has a potentially good sell-on value if things did not quite work out at the Whites.
Lundstram has performed fairly well in a struggling side so far in the 2020/21 term, averaging 1.1 shots and key passes a game in the Premier League (Sofascore), demonstrating his eye for a goal and assist.
The option to bring in Lundstram seems a very low-risk one for the Peacocks, but only time will tell as to whether they show any interest in the English midfielder.
