Let down: These 2 Aston Villa players have been awful this season

Aston Villa fans here in the Tavern are hoping that their side will secure promotion in the current campaign, as they have a good chance of reaching the Premier League via the play-offs.

Interestingly, the Villains were automatic promotion contenders not so long ago, but a string of negative performances soon saw Villa drop down the table as they look like settling for a play-off spot. Indeed, Steve Bruce has struggled to rally his troops at times, as there are improvements to be had from here on in until the end of the season.

Sadly, a couple of the club’s first-team players have struggled to live up to expectations so far this season, as a summer transfer window exit could be in the offing. Therefore, Steve Bruce will be watching his players closely from here on in until the end of the season, as any minor slip-up could be damaging for the Villains.

Nevertheless, here’s a look at TWO Aston Villa players that have been awful this season…

Ahmed Elmohamady

Ahmed Elmohamady has failed to live up to expectations in the current campaign as he often loses out to Alan Hutton, with many of our local residents wanting to see him gone in the summer transfer window.

Indeed, the former Hull City defender has been sluggish in possession and struggles to contribute in the final third as an easy target for the opposition.

Therefore, Villa should look to offload the wing-back in the summer months after a less than convincing campaign, with Championship football perhaps proving too difficult for the 30-year-old.

Scott Hogan

The Republic of Ireland international has lost his place in the side since Lewis Grabban was signed on loan in the January transfer window, as he’s failed to live up to the hefty price that was paid for his services.

Indeed, Scott Hogan has only managed to produce nine goals in the current campaign with Grabban now closing in on his tally, so the striker will definitely need to improve from here on in until the end of the season.

So, Hogan could be on his way out of the exits if he fails to contribute towards Villa’s promotion push, as he continues to struggle for consistency with limited opportunities being handed to him.
