Chelsea’s resurgence under Liam Rosenior has been one of the standout stories of the season so far.
The Blues have collected eight wins from their last 11 matches in all competitions, climbing the table and rediscovering a sense of belief at Stamford Bridge.
Several players have flourished in the process. Joao Pedro has been in electric form, netting seven goals since Rosenior’s arrival, while Andrey Santos and Estevao have also caught the eye with consistently high-level performances. At the back, Chelsea look far more organised and resilient, a clear reflection of their manager’s influence.
However, not every member of the squad has enjoyed the same upturn in fortunes. One player who has struggled to find his rhythm is Liam Delap — and Rosenior has now addressed speculation surrounding the striker’s future.
Rosenior Speaks on Delap’s Future
Rosenior has strongly indicated that Delap remains part of his plans moving forward, hinting that the forward will still be at the club for the 2026–27 campaign.
Chelsea triggered the £30 million release clause in Delap’s Ipswich Town contract last summer, bringing the highly-rated striker to west London with significant expectations attached.
Previously labelled “impressive” by Alan Shearer, the 23-year-old has found life at Stamford Bridge challenging, managing just one goal in 17 Premier League appearances.
Reports earlier this week claimed that several English clubs are monitoring his situation closely, fuelling talk of a potential exit. But speaking during Thursday’s press conference, Rosenior suggested patience is required and backed the forward to improve.
When asked whether Delap should be assessed more fairly after a full second season in the Premier League, Rosenior agreed.
“I think that’s clear,” he said. “If you look at most players’ careers, normally when they join the club, it’s the second season that they really take off. For Liam, he’s had some really, really good performances. But also his rhythm has been interrupted with injury, his shoulder issue.”
While Delap’s first season has fallen short of expectations, Rosenior’s comments suggest the striker is not heading for the exit door just yet. With Chelsea building momentum and several teammates thriving, the club appear prepared to give Delap the time and backing needed to prove he can become a key figure in their long-term project.
