Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are still reeling from the announcement that Steven Gerrard will be leaving the club come the end of the season but it seems that their manager Brendan Rodgers has already started to think about his replacement – well according to the Observer at least.
Rodgers has reportedly made no secret of the fact that he thinks anyone who comes in to replace the long serving skipper has to be the finished article and not someone who will take a while to slot into the team and get to grips with the pace of the Premier League.
He noted: The owners know that not every player can be a developer if you want to keep progressing.’
As one of our punters notes, whilst we fully agree with this sentiment, Liverpool have to accept that they are not at the very top level of football anymore and that will play a massive part in who they can bring into the football club.
