Liverpool could take advantage of Real Madrid’s transfer plans to nab one of Los Blancos’ star men – with the 15-time European champions eyeing a key player from rivals Chelsea.
The Reds are not having the most enjoyable campaign, with the defence of their Premier League crown falling to pieces despite a strong start to the season.
Arne Slot’s side won their opening five games, but they are currently on a run of four successive draws, leaving them in fourth place and 14 points behind leaders Arsenal.
Their collapse points to a potential rebirth via some shrewd deals in the transfer market, but after some hefty outlays last summer, major winter arrivals seem unlikely.
But following a recent report, there could be an intriguing opportunity for the Anfield side come next summer, whereby they make the most of a transfer tussle involving Chelsea and Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez sale could open door to Camavinga deal

Liverpool have recently been linked with Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, with the Reds thought to be eyeing an ‘unprecedented’ approach for the Frenchman.
It had been rumoured that Real Madrid have been planning an overhaul in the wake of Xabi Alonso’s dismissal, with Florentino Perez reportedly eyeing some eye-watering investments to return Los Blancos to the peak of the European game.
To this end, they have been linked with Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, who Real Madrid view as a midfield leader.
However, according to Fichajes, players will have to leave to fund such an ambitious move – and that’s where Liverpool target Camavinga comes in.
It is thought that Camavinga has underperformed at the Santiago Bernabeu and Real Madrid are deciding whether to sanction his departure.
Ultimately, the feeling in the Spanish capital is that Camavinga will not reach the heights expected of him following his £34.3m move from Rennes five years ago, with the club said to be after around £40m to free up funds for Fernandez.
With Chelsea paying over £100m for the Argentinian and tying him to a long contract, it is unlikely he will be allowed to go on the cheap. However, there have been rumours that the World Cup winner is not totally happy at Stamford Bridge and could yet agitate for a move.
Chelsea's record transfer signings
| Player | Fee |
|---|---|
| Moises Caicedo | £115m |
| Enzo Fernandez | £107m |
| Romelu Lukaku | £97.5m |
| Mykhailo Mudryk | £89m |
| Kepa Arrizabalaga | £71.6m |
| Kai Havertz | £71m |
| Wesley Fofana | £70m |
| Marc Cucurella | £60m |
| Joao Pedro | £60m |
| Alvaro Morata | £60m |
If Liverpool take the plunge, they could strengthen their midfield and weaken a direct rival in one fell swoop.
And for that price, they’d surely be foolish to pass up the chance to enhance their squad with such a proven winner.
