Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up with interest as our landlord reports that their captain is now in contract limbo – according to the Daily Mail at least.

Despite Steven Gerrard now being free to talk to other clubs, it seems that the Reds are confident that their long serving midfielder will not do a ‘Frank Lampard’ and will be staying at Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers moved to reassure the fans and was nothing but positive, claiming: “When I came in here two-and-a-half years ago, everyone asked if he could play my type of football or if his legs had gone. You’ve seen him over the last couple of years. He could have been player of the year last season.

“I’m managing his game time. He understands my situation of picking the best team and making it fresh as often as we can.”

Whilst we are not sure if Gerrard really was the player of the year last term, one thing is for sure – the player is attracting interest from several clubs, especially in the MLS and we think that Liverpool need to move fast to secure his future.
