Liverpool: Fans exploded in delight after surpassing prestigious record set by Manchester United

Liverpool fans exploded in delight after the club surpassed a record set by Manchester United.

The Reds beat Brazilian side Flamengo 1-0 at the Khalifa International Stadium and became the second English to win the tournament, after Manchester United in 2008.

Roberto Firmino scored in the 99th minute as the Reds won their 47th major honour since establishing in 1892.

At the start of last season, the Merseyside club were behind their hated neighbours with 44 major honours. However, winning the Champions League in Madrid and the Super Cup in Istanbul ensured that Jurgen Klopp’s side went back to the top of the list as England’s most successful team.

Supporters were jubilant with the news and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan declared that the Merseysiders are “back on their perch”.
