Liverpool fans have been watching on with a huge smile on their faces this weekend, as they beat Wolves on Friday to kick off the Premier League this weekend. Now, with three days until their next game, the Reds have been treated to some nostalgia as their club tweeted a video of a Xabi Alonso corker from this day in 2006.

Now 37-years-old and retired, Xabi Alonso was a huge fan favourite at Anfield, amd was apart of the famous side that helped win the Champions League against all the odds back in 2005. However, those days are long gone and all that the fans have to remember Alonso by is the memories and videos of some of the Spaniard’s cracking goals on Merseyside.
Alosno took to the pitch 210 times as a Liverpool player, and it will surprise you to hear that he scored as little as 18 times, although the majority of them were ever sensational strikes or important goals in big games. That was just the type of player Alonso was, and as the fans have watched his goal from this day in 2006 back, they’ve been lauding him as the best Spaniard to ever grace the Premier League.
You can read the Reds’ verdict on Alonso here:

Probably my all time LFC favorite. Classy. Heartbeat of the team. Treachery for Rafa to let him go

We should never have let him go! One of my all time faves!

The Kopites still absolutely love Alonso and would do anything to have the Spanish midfielder return to the club in some capacity in the future.
