Eleven years ago today, Liverpool welcomed El Nino, Fernando Torres to Anfield after signing him from Atletico Madrid. The Spaniard took to live on Merseyside like a duck to water and he bagged 81 goals and 20 assists in 142 appearances for The Reds. After just three and a half years as a Liverpool player, the Spaniard left on bad terms, though, as he joined Chelsea in January 2011.

Liverpool fans enjoyed soe terrific moments with Torres up front at Anfield. The Spaniard had a thing for tearing apart Manchester United and Nemanja Vidic in particular and those memories will live long with the Kopites. The fans just wish that Torres had stuck around a little bit longer to partner up with Steven Gerrard, Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez. The four of them would have almost guaranteed a Premier League title for the Reds.
Things weren’t to be for Torres on Merseyside, though, and whilst he was much more prolific at Anfield, he won more at Stamford Bridge and that fateful move back in late January 2011 will stain his legacy with Liverpool fans. The ageing striker is now plying his trade in Japan for Sagan Tosu after ending his third stint with his boyhood club Atletico Madrid back in July.

As you can see, there’s still a lot of love for Torres at Anfield, despite the fact he deserted them back in 2011.
